Serbia’s national soccer team is full of strength and power. Many of the Serbian national teams have played in major leagues in Europe, and virtually all have similar attributes; strength. Perhaps the emergence of young striker Dusan Vlahovic this season has given the team more hope in competing for major international honors. While Serbia has had many talents in Aleksandar Kolarov, Dusan Tadic, and Nemanja Matic, Vlahovic’s goalscoring prowess gives Serbians a buzz right now.

Serbia National Soccer Team: Tactics & Principles

The national side does seem undecided on their best formation, having experimented of late with 3-4-3, 3-5-1-1 and 4-3-3. All formations share a similar shape, but the transitions between defense and attack are more fluent in having three upfront. Midfield is anchored by a strong selection of big men that tend to hold, only committing forward in true overlap situations. Ultimately, Serbia is a defensive side that has the capabilities in Mitrovic and Vlahovic to score a bag full of goals with the right service.

World Cup Predictions & What to Expect?

Serbia’s most successful years in the major competition were in the 1960’s when they finished runners-up in Euros twice and fourth place in the World Cup. The Serbian side has not managed to field a side consistently good enough to compete in the major competitions. Despite their struggles through previous years, this side does look refreshing and has made notable progress of late. Serbia will qualify for the World Cup, having beaten the likes of Ireland and Portugal, even with Ronaldo and Jota in their ranks. Serbia could be an outside bet for qualification to the finals of the tournament but are unlikely to be competing in the final game.

Serbia National Soccer Team Players: Top 5

Nemanja Matic:

The Manchester United midfielder is known for his tough tackling and tireless running in the midfield ranks. Matic has a sweet left foot and has scored some rocket goals in the EPL. Not enough credit is given to Matic for his ball-playing ability; he is technically gifted and has a great eye for link-up passing.

Aleksandar Mitrovic:

Currently playing at Fulham in the English Championship, this striker is one of the best finishers I have seen. During the 21/22 season, Mitrovic was nearing 21 goals halfway through the season! His cult hero status at Fulham should be shared by Serbian fans as he is also the top goalscorer for his country.

Dusan Tadic:

Tadic is deployed as an attacking midfielder and is absolute class on the ball. His quick thinking and sharp movement has elevated him to one of Ajax’s best players and his value is increasing drastically.

Dusan Vlahovic:

Vlahovic secured his move from Fiorentina to Juventus in a big move for the young Serbian. Since arriving, he has continued his assault on the top goalscorer charts. When this boy slows down, scoring is unknown. Currently, he is becoming one of the best goalscoring strikers in the world, and, just into his twenties, he could be one of the best ever.

Luka Jovic:

Jovic is a Real Madrid striker that has struggled for games at his home club, where Karim Benzema is in favour, naturally. However, Jovic plays for, arguably, the most decorated side in the world, and this is not without merit. On loan to Frankfurt, he returned just under a goal every other game in Bundesliga and shows he is capable of delivering against top opposition.

Who is Serbia’s Soccer Manager?

Dragan Stojkovic is the current manager. His experience as a manager has been obtained in Asia. He managed at Nagoya Grampus in Japan and Guangzhou R&F in China. In Asia, where he played between 1994 and 2001, Dragan would have been more accustomed to a technical style of soccer. The differences between technical football and power play football, to which most of the Serbian soccer plays would have been used before, could be a brilliant mixture of techniques. How far could he take Serbia as the manager in this year’s international competition?
